KINDERGARTEN
Classroom: Unit on Aileen Fisher, pioneer daughter of Iron County. Folk Fair with 1st grade.

Museum: Classes will be divided into small groups to rotate through three sectionals:


A. Animal/bird search in the Lee Leblanc Wildlife Art Gallery.
B. Making old-fashined dolls: clothespin, corncob and stocking.
C. Sing-a-long and introduction to folk dance moves.


FIRST GRADE
Classroom: Art project related to quilting. Folk Fair participation with kindergarten.

Museum: Classes will be divided into small groups to rotate through four sectionals:

A. Quilting story and demonstration.
B. Native American lore.
C. Attending a one-room schoolhouse class.
D. Singing games and learning old-time children's songs.

SECOND GRADE LESSON PLAN

SECOND GRADE
Classroom: Transportation and geography projects, including mapping and art instruction to draw pictures of vehicles.

Museum: Classes will meet at the trolley car where they will be divided into small groups to rotate through four individual sectionals:


A. Opening "Grandma's Trunk"
B. Telegraphy (shown at left)
C. Old-time string games
D. "Map Walk"


THIRD GRADE
Classroom: In-class visit by museum docent(s) to share gardening experiences. Art instruction to draw pictures of flowers and vegetables.

Museum: Classes will be divided into small groups to rotate through four sectionals:

A. Beechwood Log Cabin- baking bread and making butter.
B. Farm tools and animals.
C. Planting the Museum flower garden.
D. Monigal Miniatures (carved miniatures of logging operation).

THIRD GRADE LESSON PLAN


FOURTH GRADE
Classroom: Autumn: Lessons and activities about attending school in a one-room schoolhouse. Lessons and art instruction to make dioramas, depicting early Native American life, from natural materials (twigs, bark, moss, rocks, leaves, etc).

Museum: Experience a day of school at the Baumgartner Pioneer School. Art exhibit of Native American dioramas during the Christmas Galleria in November.

Classroom: Spring: Review Native American life. Instruction in making small birch bark canoes. Art instruction to draw railroad stations and train cars.

Museum: Classes will be divided into small groups to rotate through four sectionals:

A. Native American culture, including games.
B. Railroads (tour of the Stager Railroad Depot)
C. Trappers and Traders.
D. Scandinavian Folk Dancing.

FIFTH GRADE
Classroom: Family trees. In-class visit by museum docent to share information on ethnic roots and sources of information. Art instruction in wildlife drawing. View "historic plays" performed by 7th grade students.

Museum: Classes will be divided into small groups to rotate through four sectionals:

A. Genealogy-examining museum records.
B. Victorian life-making calling cards.
C. Carrie Jacobs-Bond house, dining etiquette, parlor music.
D. Catalog shopping-compare/contrast 1900s/2000s.

FIFTH GRADE LESSON PLAN


SIXTH GRADE
Classroom: Research the logging industry. Past and present.

Museum: Classes will be divided into small groups to rotate through four sectionals:

A. Sharrard logging camp tour and storyteller.
B. Wood carvings and woodcut prints.
C. Life in a mining location-models, houses, schools and work.
D. Ethnic heritage-8 large murals in Heritage Hall.

SIXTH GRADE LESSON PLAN


SEVENTH GRADE
Classroom: Research local history and write short plays (role-play early Iron County settlers) Perform plays for 5th grade students. Art instruction to build miniature log cabins.

Museum: Classes will be divided into small groups to rotate through four sectionals:

A. Log cabin construction.
B. Mining complex tour outside.
C. Video of underground iron ore mining.
D. Ethnic heritage in music, food and dance.

SEVENTH GRADE LESSON PLAN


EIGHTH GRADE
Classroom: Gather oral history data and write short stories about local residents. Study contemporary art. Art instruction to make stained-glass African masks.

Museum: Classes will be divided into small groups to rotate through four sectionals:

A. Bernhardt Art Gallery-contemporary.
B. Giovanelli Art Gallery-Renaissance style.
C. LeBlanc Wildlife Art Gallery.
D. "Art Walk".
